Wealth advice
Investment advice or a management mandate?
I provide advice: I recommend, you decide. I do not manage your money on your behalf. Here is the difference, and what to check if a mandate suits you better.

The difference
- Investment advice: I make recommendations, you decide on each transaction. This is what I do.
- Management mandate: the manager decides on day-to-day transactions, within the written limits of the contract.
What a mandate sets out
- Your risk profile and your time horizon.
- The target allocation between shares, bonds, cash and other investments.
- What you exclude (sectors, countries, products).
- How often you receive reports, and what they contain.
- The fees, all of them.
What to check
In Switzerland, an independent portfolio manager must be authorised by FINMA (the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority) and monitored by a supervisory organisation (Financial Institutions Act, FinIA, LEFin). Banks manage assets under their own licence. As a rule, your securities remain deposited with a bank, in your name; the manager only holds a power of attorney to manage them. Check these two points in writing, and check the authorisation on FINMA’s public list.
What I do
I advise you in writing, and you stay in control of every transaction. If a management mandate fits your situation better, I explain what to check before you sign with an authorised portfolio manager.
