Physical gold and investment gold
Gold pays neither interest nor dividends. People hold it mainly to diversify their wealth. You still need to choose the right form.

Physical or financial
- Bars and coins: you own the metal. It has to be kept somewhere safe and insured.
- Financial gold: funds or accounts backed by gold. Simpler to acquire and to resell, but you do not hold the bar yourself.
VAT
In Switzerland, investment gold is exempt from VAT: cast or minted bars with a fineness of at least 995 thousandths, marked with their fineness and the stamp of an assayer-melter, and gold coins issued by states (Federal VAT Act (LTVA), art. 107 para. 2, in French; VAT Ordinance (OTVA), art. 44). Jewellery and gold objects are not included.
Where to keep it
Bank safe-deposit box, specialist vault or at home: each solution has its own cost, access conditions and insurance. The purchase price is only part of the total cost.
What the law does not cover
A bar or a coin is not a financial instrument within the meaning of the Financial Services Act (FinSA, LSFin). The profile and suitability rules that apply to investments do not apply to it: all the more reason to put everything in writing.
What share?
There is no universal rule. Gold is priced in US dollars: its price in Swiss francs also depends on the exchange rate. A gold position should not exceed what you could see fall sharply without putting your plans at risk.
What I do
I help you choose the form (bars, coins or a financial investment), the size of the position and how to store it. You receive a written recommendation showing the purchase, storage and resale costs.
