In 2027, health insurance premiums rise by 3.5% on average in the canton of Vaud, or CHF 15.20 more per month (State of Vaud, 29.09.2026). In Switzerland, the average premium reaches CHF 412 per month, up 5% (Federal Office of Public Health, FOPH, 29.09.2026; La Télé, 30.09.2026).

What it means for you

  • Budget: CHF 15.20 a month means CHF 182.40 more over the year for an average premium (15.20 × 12). For an adult, the average increase in Vaud is CHF 16.90 a month (State of Vaud). Your own increase may be higher or lower: check the letter from your health insurer.
  • Help: in the canton of Vaud, for those who are entitled to it, the premium subsidy caps health insurance costs at no more than 10% of qualifying income (“revenu déterminant”). At the end of August 2026, just over 310,000 people were receiving it (State of Vaud). If your income has fallen, check whether you are entitled to it.
  • Timetable: to switch health insurer or lower your deductible, your health insurer must receive your letter by 30 November 2026 at the latest. The FOPH advises sending it by 15 November at the latest (FOPH, 29.09.2026).

The question to ask yourself: do you know exactly what the premium you pay every month covers?
